How do you know what's the right biz for you to go into?
Of course it's got to be something you love. But, sometimes
what you love doesn't make sense for you to do - at least not at
the moment. Maybe you don't live in the right place for that
business. Imagine you love surfboarding and would like to
open a surfing goods store. If you live in Brooklyn that might
not be the best place for that type of business.
When you think about what biz to go into, ask yourself:
- Do I love the thing that I'm going to be selling?
- Is this something that I'm good at? Or is there something I'm better at?
- Do I know lots of people who are already doing it? Can I get experience working for them?
- Do I have the training or experience I will need to succeed?
- Do I live in the right place for this biz?
If you think this is the thing you love to do the
most, have the skills (or know you can get the skills) to do the
job right, and live in a place where it will sell, then you are
off to a good start.
If not, all is not lost. Remember this just might not be the right
time for you to start a business. But, with some life experience,
classes, and a job in the field that could change.
You can read more about getting
the education you need.
